Year 5 pupils had an exciting opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom by collaborating with Bellway Homes on a new housing development on Staindrop Road, Darlington.
The initiative provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to link their learning to the curriculum, particularly their studies of nature, while contributing to a real-life development in their local area. The winning street names – Beehive Drive, Daisy Avenue, Fern Close, and Tulip Avenue will now become part of the new community.
“When I let the winners know, their ideas had been chosen, they were so excited and couldn’t wait to visit the street signs once they were built,” said Ms Vickers, Year 5 teacher. “They even began imagining what it would be like to live on the streets they had named. This experience has allowed them to feel part of something special and to contribute to the history of their own town.”
The school extends its sincere thanks to Bellway Homes for providing such a valuable and memorable experience. This partnership highlights the importance of community engagement and inspires young people to take an active role in shaping their local area.
